  13. Minimum Requirements for EarthBASE+ for Windows version 1.0:
  14. IBM AT or compatible, IBM PS/2, 80286 or later, 2 MB of RAM, Microsoft
  15. Windows 3.0 or later, protected mode only, and 1.5 MB of disk space. A hard
  16. disk is recommended for large databases and maps.  EarthBASE+ is not copy
  17. protected.

  23. 1.  Run the Windows Program Manager.

  37. Note:  When selecting the Draw macro, please select the Draw macro stating
  38.        your current video mode.  No windows in EarthBASE+ should be maximized

  46. boundaries) and StreetInfo Plus for DOS data files may be purchased from

  48. from Wessex, Inc., 144 Green Bay Road, Winnetka, Il 60093, (1-800-892-6906).
  49. Wessex's data requires a CD-ROM drive.  THE MapInfo COMPATIBLE DATA MUST BE
  50. IN THE DOS FORMAT RATHER THAN THE GUI FORMAT!  Again, even though EarthBASE+
  51. for Windows is a Windows application, you must use MapInfo data which is in
  52. the DOS format.

  58. This readme file contains an overview of the features of EarthBASE+ for
  59. Windows and pricing information.  The on-line help file that accompanies
  60. EarthBASE+ for Windows contains the reference section found in the printed
  61. manual.

  64. Overview

  67. EarthBASE+ is a mapping application which provides features in four main
  68. areas:  powerful database functions (reads/writes/creates XBASE database
  69. files; imports/exports delimited ASCII files), locates/geocodes database
  70. addresses onto a world map down to the street level, creates presentation
  71. quality color output which may be sent to a printer or the clipboard, and
  72. data analysis functions.  XBASE database files are dBASE compatible database
  73. files created from applications such as dBASE II-IV, FoxPro, Clipper, etc..
  74. A strength of EarthBASE+ is its ability to work with large databases while
  75. requiring minimal hardware.  EarthBASE+ is divided into four windows:  the
  76. Globe Window, the Record Window, the Field Window, and the Create Window.
  77. The main features are as follows:

  79. CREATE WINDOW
  80.  
  81. XBASE database files may be created or modified according to a user-specified
  82. field structure.  Existing files may have fields added, deleted, and/or field
  83. names changed.  Records may be appended onto existing files.  Delimited ASCII
  84. files may be imported and converted to XBASE database files.  The field
  85. structure may be output to a printer or copied to the clipboard.

  87. GLOBE WINDOW
  88.  
  89. XBASE Database File Compatibility:  Opens XBASE database files containing up
  90. to 1 million records (file size may not exceed 2000 MB).  Every 10,000 records
  91. requires an additional 110 KB of RAM.  An XBASE database file's structure is
  92. automatically understood as it is loaded.  A record is located in the Globe
  93. Window by using available fields containing latitude/longitude data, street
  94. address/city/state data, or five digit U.S. zip code data.  All EarthBASE+
  95. features, except record location, are active if no location data is available.

  97. MapInfo File Compatibility:  Directly reads and displays concurrently up to 20
  98. MapInfo boundary (.BDY extension) and 20 MapInfo StreetInfo map (.GEO
  99. extension) files.  Location of database addresses down to the street level is
  100. available for the region covered by a particular street map.  Imports boundary
  101. data which is in MapInfo's import format (an ASCII format called MBI for
  102. MapInfo Boundary Interchange format).  Converts imported boundary data to an
  103. optimized boundary file format.  Boundary, StreetInfo (county-wide street map
  104. and associated city boundaries), and StreetInfo Plus for DOS data files may be
  105. purchased from MapInfo Corporation, 200 Broadway, Troy, NY, 12180,
  106. (1-800-FAST-MAP); or from Wessex, Inc., 144 Green Bay Road, Winnetka, Il
  107. 60093, (1-800-892-6906).  Wessex's data requires a CD-ROM drive. The MapInfo
  108. compatible data must be in the DOS format rather than the GUI format.

  110. Record Display Toggle:  Records may be displayed based on the following
  111. criteria:  all records, all records included by the last query or all records
  112. excluded by the last query.
  113.  
  114. Output:  The displayed contents of the Globe Window, governed by the record
  115. display toggle, may be sent as color output to a printer or the clipboard.
  116. The displayed contents may be stored to disk as an XBASE database file.
  117. Records are displayed in the Globe Window and stored in the XBASE database
  118. file in the order that they have been sorted in the Record Window.

  120. Zoom:  Zooms in until the maximized screen width of the Globe Window
  121. represents 129 feet wide.
  122.  
  123. Globe Movement:  The scroll bars and/or arrow keys move the globe in
  124. northward, southward, eastward, and westward directions.  Double clicking
  125. on a position of the globe repositions the globe's cursor to that position.
  126. You may also drag the globe to a new viewpoint by dragging the globe with
  127. the right mouse button.  The snap mode moves the globe from record location
  128. to record location in the above mentioned directions.

  130. Measurement:  Measures the great circle distance between any two points in
  131. miles and kilometers.
  132.  
  133. Count:  Counts the number of records within a user-defined radius.  If the
  134. count mode is active during queries in the Field Window, the query has the
  135. added constraint that the record lie within the chosen radius.
  136.  
  137. Symbol:  You may choose any field, out of which, the Globe Window's display
  138. symbols for each record is extracted.
  139.  
  140. Range:  Divides records into two ranges using any numeric field.
  141.  
  142. Drawing tools:  You may use the drawing tools and the text tool to illustrate
  143. the Globe Window's display.

  145. RECORD WINDOW
  146.  
  147. The Record Window lists all of the records in the opened XBASE database file,
  148. row by row.  You specifies which fields are displayed in the window.  Records
  149. may be sorted alphabetically according to their displayed fields or according
  150. to their distances from the Globe Window's present cursor location.  The
  151. window provides a string searching function.  The record display toggle
  152. functions in the Record Window as it does in the Globe Window.  The Record
  153. Window list may be exported to a delimited ASCII file, output to a printer or
  154. copied to the clipboard.

  156. FIELD WINDOW
  157.  
  158. The Field Window views, prints, queries, edits, creates, copies, sums (field
  159. values), and deletes records in the opened XBASE database file. Queried
  160. records may be edited, counted, summed (field values), or copied to a new
  161. file.  All fields in the opened XBASE database file may be queried by example
  162. using '>', '<', and wildcard symbol '*' to constrain the query.  The record
  163. display toggle functions as it does in the Globe Window and is used to create
  164. compound queries.  The Field Window contents may be output to a printer or
  165. copied to the clipboard.

  188. version, named EarthBASE for Windows, is priced at $199.  EarthBASE for
  189. Windows has all of the features of EarthBASE+ for Windows except for the
  190. following:  EarthBASE for Windows only locates database records down to
  191. the 5-digit zip code level or latitude and longitude coordinates; it does not
  192. display MapInfo boundary and street map files, nor does it import boundary
  193. files.  DOS versions (EarthBASE+ and EarthBASE) of these products are
  194. also available.  The Dos versions only open XBASE database files containing
  195. up to 35,000 records.
